Patriarchal Blessing

I love pintrest.  You can find all kinds of fun things to do and eat.  Sometimes I find something that makes me think.  That is what happened when I found a pin about Patriarchal blessings.  This is what I got out of it.  The link to the original pin is at the bottom.

How to Use Your Patriarchal Blessing

A patriarchal blessing is our own personal scriptures from the Lord and is a priceless tool that we should not hide away and never use. Here are some excellent tips on how to use our blessing, which I found very helpful.

  1. Make a copy of your patriarchal blessing
  2. Get three colored pens/pencils for marking
  3. Underline any words or phrases using the following key:
    • Color 1: Counsel and Warnings
    • Color 2: Descriptions about You
    • Color 3: Your Gifts and Talents
  4. On a separate piece of paper make a list for each color group of all the words/phrases you underlined
  5. Look up the words in the scriptures to understand how the Lord uses them
  6. Use the list of warnings to create goals to do what you've been counseled
  7. Put your lists and goals in your scriptures
  8. Read them every night and then "return and report" to the Lord in Prayer at the end of your day

As you do this, two things will happen:
  1. You will come to know how much the Lord loves you.
  2. You will know where to go for help, and what to do each day.

loves us. He wants us to have joy and to be saved from sins. To help us have joy and be saved He has given us the individual guidance we need through our patriarchal blessing. As we turn to the Lord, humble ourselves, and ask for His help we will be greatly blessed.

I got my souvenir.

I got my souvenir or as David is calling it my birthday present.  Last week when we were in Arizona Courtney kept teasing me about getting a dog to take home as a souvenir.  Today David called and was asking me if we wanted to get a puppy from his coworker.  It was a rat terrier and they were only charging $50.  David then got thinking and showed me some Yorkies.  Before I knew it I was paying for her.  She is a nine week old pure bread Yorkie.  The kids have no idea they are going to be so surprised when they get home from school.    Let the Naming begin.

Natalie's Shower invitation

Rita asked me to help with the invitations for a shower that she is throwing for Natalie my sister-in-law.  Rita wrote the words I just had to make it come ot life.  If she doesn't like this I will have to make a paper version.

New Hobby

I started a new hobby. English Smocking! I didn't start it because I needed something else to do but because my mom pressured me into taking a class with her. By pressuring me i mean she paid for the class and invited me to go. I am glad that she talked me into it.  It is a form of heirloom sewing.  The projects are meant to be passed down.  At first I was worried that I would not find a project to work on.  Marissa has outgrown the baby stage and likes more grown up styles.  I just finished my first project.

This is not Ric rack on the skirt but picture smocking.  It looks like Ric rack but is stitched on the fabric after it is pleated.  We then picked out trim to go along the bottom of the skirt.  Marissa wanted me to finish it so bad that Saturday she told me she would take care of everything for me so I could sew then I herd her tell Derek she would get him what he needed and that he was not to bother me.  She told David the same thing when he got home.

I got it done Saturday so she could wear it Sunday.  The woman who got us started is in our ward so after church Marissa and I found her to show her our finished work.  She said good job.  I know it is not perfect and Marissa is the thing that makes it cute.

girt about with truth, and having the breastplate of righteousness; “And your  feet shod
with the  preparation of the gospel of peace; “Above all, taking the shield of faith

Every soul is personally engaged in the struggle, and he makes his fight with what is in
his mind.  In the final analysis the battleground is, for each individual, within himself.
Inevitably he gravitates toward the subjects of his thoughts.” (Marion G. Romney

My new Scripture plan 2012

It's NOT TOO LATE TO START!
Finish a year from the day you started...

Read the scriptures in 365 days! It only takes about 15-20 minutes a day and it will change your life!

I have loved the 40 day plan to read the Book of Mormon and I am just a few days from finishing.  today I found this plan to read all the scriptures in a year. This blog. has all the information that you need.  It does not have reading for leap year so I can catch up one day then.  So I am only one day behind if I start today.  wish me luck.

Scripture of the Day:
“And blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “And blessed are they who
do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost.

in heart, for they shall see God.” (3 Nephi 12:5-8)

“I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.
And ye ought to say in your heart– let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee

Thought for the day:
“We are required to forgive all men, for our own sakes, since hatred retards spiritual
growth.” (Orson F. Whitney)

Read: Helaman 15-16 & 3 Nephi:1-4 Mark & Ponder: 3 Nephi 11:14-15
Scripture of the Day:
The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness
unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” “But he
that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”
(Corinthians 2:14-15)
Thought for the day:
“The high-minded man must care more for the truth than for what people think.”
(Aristotle)

 Day 32: ___________________  Date: ___________________
Read: 3 Nephi 5-10 Mark & Ponder: 3 Nephi 11:29
Scripture of the Day:
“And I give unto you a commandment, that ye shall forsake all evil and cleave unto all
good, that ye shall live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God.
“For he will give unto the faithful line upon line, and precept upon precept...”
(D&C 98:11-12)
Thought for the day:
“Goal setting should cause us to stretch as we make our way... Realize that God will
judge you by the way you make use of all your possibilities.  It is wise and proper to want
to make the most of every opportunity, but don’t quit or weep because of failure or
disappointments.  Break down big commitments into smaller ones that you can handle.”

Read: 3 Nephi 11-16 Mark & Ponder: 3 Nephi 12:48

which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.” (D&C 14:7)

Day 34: ___________________  Date: ___________________
Read: 3 Nephi 17-21 Mark & Ponder: 3 Nephi 27:8
Scripture of the Day:
“Behold, he changed their hearts; yea, he awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they
awoke unto God. Behold they were in the midst of darkness; nevertheless, their souls
were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word; yea, they were encircled about
by the bands of death, and the chains of hell and an everlasting destruction did await
them.” (Alma 5:7)
Thought for the day:
“Why do the children of men set their hearts upon earthly things?   ...(the) moment that
men seek to build up themselves, in preference to the kingdom of God, and seek to
hoard up riches, while the widow and fatherless, the sick and afflicted, around them,
are in poverty and want, it proves that their hearts are weaned from their God; and their
riches will perish in their fingers, and they with them.” (Pres Brigham Young)

Read: 3 Nephi 22-30   Mark & Ponder: Ester 12:6
